PAINT OUT ON MAIN STREET
Saturday, Oct 23, 1:00 to 3:30 pm Uptown Sedona
Artists will place themselves along Main Street in Uptown Sedona. Public is invited to watch them paint en plein air. Observers will see Sedona through the eyes of the artists as they capture picturesque Sedona on paper or canvas. Event ends with a chance to see the finished works and purchase on the sidewalk in front of the Sedona Arts Center.

FIRST PUBLIC SALE OF FESTIVAL ART

Festival artists and the public have been invited to enjoy the Historic Town of Jerome for the day. Observe and chat with the artists as they paint the unique scenic beauty of this old mining town built on the side of a mountain between Sedona and Prescott.

Learn about the demands, challenges and excitement of painting en plein air and how the creative process varies depending on the medium in which the artist is working. The lectures will include a demonstration and explanation of techniques that can be used for succesful painting while dealing with changing light, shadows and the weather. The sessions will be interactive and questions are welcome.

 

 

GUEST SPEAKER ~ STUART SHILS
The Perceptual Moment: The Nature of Perception and the Perception of Nature

This talk and digital slide presentation is open to the public and provides an orientation to Stuarts students taking his workshop this week. Stuarts talk this evening will cover the importance of structure to painting, drawing and photography. Structure is essential to the artist and an understanding of this aspect of how we percieve artwork will enhance our ability to appreciate and evaluate art in general.

STUART SHILS, a native of Philadelphia, has painted en plein air for 25 years. His work has been shown in New York, Philadelphia, Tel Aviv, Boston, Scottsdale, Richmond, San Francisco and Cork (Ireland).  Critical review and commentary has appeared in newspapers, journals, and magazines, including: The New York Times, The New Yorker, Ha' aretz, The Jerusalem Post, The Boston Globe, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Irish Times, Art in America, and American Artist.

Shils has been an annual visiting critic at the Vermont Studio Center, teaches master classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, is a visiting critic at PAFA, and has lectured widely on painting and drawing.

His paintings are currently exhibited at Tibor de Nagy in New York and works on paper at Davis and Langdale, also in New York. 


ARTISTS QUICK DRAW EVENT

Oak Creek at Los Abrigados
The artists gather early on the scenic grounds and by the Creek at Los Abrigados and choose their spot to paint. The goal is to complete a painting - start to finish - in just two hours. You will be amazed at the results! Be a part of the excitement! Open to the public - no charge.

SECOND PUBLIC SALE OF FESTIVAL ART 
Thursday, Oct 28, 4:00 to 5:00pm
The Garden at Los Abrigados
Observe the artists during the Quick Draw as their magical hands interpret the beauty that surrounds them. Immediately following the event, you will be able to purchase the one that touched your artistic soul - and take it home with you that very day.  (This is the second of three public sales of Festival art - a perfect opportunity for visitors in town for the day!)
