to watch them paint “en plein air.” See
Sedona through the eyes of the artists.

Enjoy a lecture by a renowned speaker on
the “History of Plein Air Painting.” Learn
about the roots of the art form and how it
has emerged as a significant art genre in
the 21st Century.
A reception with the speaker and the
festival artists will follow. Join us for
this opening event of the Festival. Meet the
artists and view samples of their work that
will be exhibited in the Artists Showcase in
the Community Gallery. Get a sense of the
different media and styles of the thirty
participating artists. While you are at the
Center, pick a time and place to see your
favorite artist at work as she or he paints
the scenic beauty of Sedona and Oak Creek
Canyon throughout the week. |

A MORNING BACK IN TIME

Artists
will spend the early morning at the Sedona
Historical Society Museum and Grounds,
painting the unique setting, buildings,
vintage pieces such as the old Sedona fire
truck and views of the surrounding red
rocks. Open to the public.

about the demands, challenges and excitement
of painting “en plein air” and how the
creative process varies depending on the
medium in which the artist is working. The
lectures will include slides, samples of
work, and a demonstration. Mediums that are
being used by artists in this year’s
festival include: oils, pastels, watercolor,
and acrylics. |
