Plein Air Workshops

 
The Plein Air Workshops are being offered immediately following the Festival. The instructor for each class is one of 30 award-winning artists invited to participate in the 2008 Festival. This is an opportunity to build your skills in this challenging art form by studying with one of the best!

Students can work in either medium as they learn how to capture the beauty of light while painting in a variety of locations in beautiful Sedona . Emphasis is on organization and simplification of darks and lights, value and color relationships, edges, movement and mass to create a dynamic, coherent composition.

Paint the magic landscape of the Sedona Desert. A master plein air artist, William Scott Jennings, will demonstrate his outdoor painting techniques, design concepts, use of materials, and preparation. Each day will include painting sessions at a spectacular Sedona location.

Clark Mitchell's "ICONS" (shown right) won the 2008 Plein Air Festival Poster Award during his participation in the 2007 Festival. He agreed in response to popular demand to lead a four-day workshop following the Festival this year. The workshop will focus on pastel painting outdoors in Sedona and will explore working pastel on various surfaces and grounds to achieve results.
